Hi, I'm Richard and I'm an alcoholic...
No, not really, I drive 44t trucks for a living - the two just don't go together :p
Anyway, hello to everyone and a little about myself;
I've always been into anything outdoors, mostly shooting, camping and fishing but have at least tried my hand at most outdoor persuits. Before I left school, I was getting into "survival", bushraft hadn't really been televised at that point but I was already learning it. I spent my first nights under canvas before I could walk (literally) and haven't stopped learning.
Nowerdays, I wouldn't say Im an expert but I know what I'm doing well enough to truly enjoy the outdoors. I'm what you'd call a tree dweller, preferring hammock and tarp to other methods, and I tend to travel light wherever possible because, to me, bushcraft is about using natural resources instead of carrying loads of gear. On this point, I had a falling out with a similar forum and went my own separate way; I joined some of the members on a weekend meet and was disappointed to see people wheeling large carts full of gear into the woods from their cars, huge tents erected in the woods and people lounging round in deck chairs, just like any camping and caravan site, ive learned to accept that this is just how some people do things but (no offence intended) you guys seem to be a little more like-minded so I thought I'd join in:camping:
Hey Richard, a warm :welcome: to NaturalBushcraft.
Matt.

Hey Richard, a warm welcome to the NaturalBushcraft forum. I'm afraid you'll find that a number of us are very much into our kit. Indeed, the longest thread on the forum, 'What Have You Bought Now??!', is dedicated to the last purchase that caused raised eyebrows from our other halves. However, don't let that put you off. For every trip where we take everything, including the kitchen sink sometimes, there are trips for when we go as minimalist as possible, cutting weight and using whatever natural resources we can.
I guess the bottom line is, don't be disappointed just because people are different from you, embrace that difference and see if you can learn from them.

Hi Richard and welcome from me too.
Unfortunately, I'm in the camp chair bracket for the moment, but that's only because of a back operation recently. Soon be chucking it. Hopefully. :)

Thanks guys, as said- no offence intended and I'm happy enough to accept other peoples ways (for whatever reason) on this occasion in perticular though it struck me as a terrible shame; no-one was actually doing anything much.
Don't worry, I've no problem with how people do things now as long as there's no unnecessary damage to the area - it's just not my cup of tea. Never know, maybe I'll manage to meet a few of you this year. Still haven't got out overnight yet this year, I'm either at work or asleep (or both), have managed a few nice bimbles though.

I've got a bit of catching up to do then! 3yrs class2 and about 8mths class 1. I run out of Grantham, to Glasgow twice a week and Bristol on Monday's (yep, night trunk, ish). To be more accurate, mines plated at 35t iirc but close enough, orrible automatic thing - wants scrapping if you ask me lol I'm on my 45min at Annandale water services as we speak.
Thanks for the kind words all, hope to see some of you in the coming months. I'm going to make a point of getting out for the night while it's still spring so I'll do my best to get some photo's up when I do. Also just got the materials together for a new knife so hopefuly I'll have a nice new "toy" to show off too!
