We have decided to form this Association as catapult shooting has hit new highs in popularity in recent years. it has become a sport for grown adults, and not just the troublesome tykes of yesteryear breaking windows with a Milbro!
Given the huge following it seemed only right that an Association be formed to protect the rights of the enthusiast and to organise the sport where needed. The sport too may well at some future point catch the gaze of unwanted government attention as has happened in Germany, Holland and other further flung lands, where power limits and design limitations have been legislated and in some cases outright bans been made. A well organised and supported sport will be better prepared to lobby government and deal with negative media and charity attention.
Briefly these are our aims:
Encourage and promote the sport of catapult shooting,
Educate the general public,
Encourage responsible shooting,
Protect the sport.
The Association will actively seek many benefits for the members of the BCA, from discounts at on-line and high-street businesses to public liabilities insurance and free legal advice. These will, as acquired, be announced on the forum.
Another aim is to promote the sport through the media, internet, radio, TV and the press. All these have a part to play in getting our sport out there for the world to see and hopefully join in.
As so many British shooters recognise the need for a shooting championship in Britain we are endeavouring to organise a championship for 2012. Sadly it wont be at the Olympic games but who knows, maybe the next! At these events we will be educating the public about our sport and its place in modern society, showing the benefits of both the target and hunting disciplines.
