View Full Version : Is Pine Resin/ sap edible

I know people just pick the resin "balls" right off the tree and eat them, some use it to make chewing gum ect. But what I don't understand is, if pine sap has turpentine in it, then how is it safe to just eat.

Don't know if it's safe to eat but I must have drunk the equivalent of several forests by now RETSINA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retsina) ;)

Not the sap so much, seems to be the inner bark most people go for

In fairness Happybonzo i'm not sure Retsina is safe to consume let alone pine resin! (Having had plenty myself over the years - retsina that is not pine resin).

I doubt that the resin is acutally poisonous but I just don't think it would be very palatable and it wouldn't have much nutritional value so there would be very little point in eating it.

I'd be amazed to not be sxxxxxxg through the eye of a needle after eating the stuff! Each to their own though I guess.
