During a trip to Comrie Croft this week, I finally gave in to temptation and bought a crook knife. Straight away I was presented with a problem. How to get the latest addition home without ripping, puncturing or lacerating either my kit or myself? :zombie-fighting:

As luck would have it I had found some wire earlier that I was thinking of using as a pot hanger. But faced with this puzzle I remembered Ashley's thread here (http://www.naturalbushcraft.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?633-My-Wooden-Crook-Knife-Sheath).

Since I lacked any pliers with which to bend the wire I hunted around for a stick with the right diameter to give me the right bend in the wire. I found one and set to work shaping the wire and heating it in the fire. Once the wire was hot enough I carefully used it to burn a curved shape into some wood.

The result was crude but functional and more important, secure and safe for transporting a sharp edge.

The cover is two halves held together with a strip of inner tube that I had on my knife sheath. I may make a neater version one day, but for now this one works fine.

Well done. Better than wrapping it in leather.

I made a soft leather 'sock' for mine, works well enough for me. Good idea though!
