Hi everyone,

I'm interested in learning more about bushcraft and need to purchase a suitable knife.

I've seen Justin Telford's review of the Fallkniven F1 and this knife is on my shortlist. I understand that Fallkniven also make the S1 Forest. Has anyone compared these knives? Which would you recommend?

The S1 has a thicker spine than the F1 (5mm compared to 4.5mm) - would this make carving more difficult? I'd also like to use the knife for general food preparation (the F1 does look like a large paring knife!).

Kind regards,

Martyn

I have had both, the F1 is a better all round knife as it has a flat grind. The S1 is more of a camp knife better suited to heavier work.I also had an A2 which a friend of mine used to carve a spoon. In the right hands any knife will do most tasks but I haven't found one that does all tasks well.

Thanks for the reply. I thought the F1 has a convex grind rather than a flat/scandi grind.

The one I had was a flat grind,I think it had been altered before it came to me.

Here is a nice alternative:http://www.blackbirdknives.com/
I have heard good things about this knife so far, it has a full flat grind and is made of 154 CM steel.:o
