Hello everyone!
I am Max and obviously am new to this forum,
I enjoy hiking, camping fishing etc hence joining this forum.
I have had a little search and cannot find the camping section, so I may as well ask here? Oh yeah, I forgot to mention I live in Cornwall.
Me and 2 other friends are planning a camping trip in dartmoor for late June/July this year. We have never been camping there before and was wondering if you guys had some advice as to where would be a good place.
We are planning a 3 night stay with no fire. I would very much like a close by stream to filter water etc
Thanks in advance for all you help!
Hi Maxamus , welcome to the Natural Bushcraft forum, you will find it a very friendly and useful site , enjoy !!

Hi Maxamus
Welcome to the NaturalBushcraft forum. You can camp pretty much anywhere on the Dartmoor commons. Check out the National Park website for full details of where you can and can't wild camp. As far as water is concerned, check out the Ordnance Survey OL28 map. This will show you all the major streams and rivers crossing the moor.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.
You can camp pretty much anywhere on the Dartmoor commons.
Is it really that simple? I have quickly read through a few other forums about people complaining of bylaws, horrible wardens and nowhere to camp.
Hi Maxamus, as Martin says , you can camp on most of Dartmoor , your best bet is to look at their website. But if you want to have a look at the Dartmoor in January thread , you will see i have some land and woods that open up directly onto the Moor.Grid Ref. SX688/672 . You and your pals would be more than welcome to try that , with the option of walking and trying a night or two actually on Dartmoor , you can have a fire at mine aswell .

That sounds brilliant! It would be great to have a fire too, it's not the same without one. I will confirm it close to the time with you to make sure that's okay?
Thanks for the warm welcome guys!
Yeah no problems , as your mates need to be broken in gently , dont want ot put them off for good ! if you dont like it at my place , you wont like it anywhere !! ( blowing my own trumpet or what ? ) Just give me a shout when you have got it together and have a date in mind

That's awesome, I am more physced than before now. I see there is a reservoir close buy, is there anything stopping me from filtering water from that? I don't like to carry hundreds of gallons of water when I go camping.
I have a natural spring , and clear stream runs right through the middle of my site , and i have it tested twice a year because it supplys 4 cottages with their water ! gets better don't it ?
