Here's my first (very poor) attempt at making a leather sheath for my Helko 2 1/4lb felling axe, using an old briefcase and some leather thong.
The donor leather

I used the clasp flap to form the welt, as it was double thickness and bonded together...

Cut the leather, approximately to the shape of the Gransfors sheath...

Glued the lot together, to hold it firm as I drilled the pilot holes for the thong, snaps, and rivet...

Then attached the snaps, rivet, and stitched the welt in with the thong...

Not pretty, but it does it's job and gives me something to improve on for the next one.
