on the subject of fire piston's, had to have a go at this one after seeing bernie's,:happy-clapping: carved one out of a bit of hard wood i had lying around, failed badly! :ashamed:
however not to be one thats put off easily i cranked up one of the old lathes at work and did this out of some 1inch ali bar i "FOUND" in the workshop just sat there ! :evilgrin:1617
i also "FOUND" some "o" rings that were just lying there in a repaire box for my watercutter:evilgrin:1618

well, i thought, thats a stoke of luck!
so i gave it a bash! literally!1619

well b*&&er me it worked..............:D

well chuffed with myself, hope you enjoy!

Well made that man!!! Keep them coming. We will end up with as much material on NB about fire by compression as there is on fire by friction (if I get my way hahaha). It started as 1" ali bar stock - what diameter is the piston rod and cylinder bore after turning???? Is it making coals first strike? What's in the piston face, charcloth?? Oooooooooooooooooh lots more questions to come. Welcome to the primitive ways of other distant cultures. Jack

Nicely done mate. I'm trying to stop myself having a go at one, I have so many projects laying around already lol.

Well done mate. If you *FIND* any more spare materials, I'd buy one from you... :)

yarp, well chuffed, thanks for all the comments, now i just need to be able to reproduce that in wood, without the aide of a lathe and drill, with only a knife and i'll be happy!

Excellent work Raven! I've been snowed under with work so I've not had a chance to work on it or try another. But this is inspiring. Maybe this weekend...:)
