Dartmoor really is a special place. It's not the hilliest, or the most remote or the most beautiful place in the UK but it is very very special. I've just spent a week in N Ireland, Scotland, the Lake District and North Wales and I was appalled at the crowds of people who were all over the place (particularly in the Lakes and Wales). Dartmoor, on the other hand, seems to have acres of space for each person and the people are there purely for the love of the place.
Hope you enjoy it, whenever you go.

i second what martin says :),you wont be dissapointed bill,im devonshire born and bred and dartmoor has a very special ora about it even on a really cold bleak day,it is really one of englands hidden gems it's full of tales and ledgends and also it has a mind of it's own,it's proberly the closest you will ever be to the iron age and prehistoric peoples of englands past you will get, also call into one of the many pubs for a full english breakfast that will kick start youre day.
