This is a lightweight kit I have put together. Packs easily into a 10 litre kitbag from Poundland.

mk2 Hobo stove
Trangia meths burner
2 nails to support meths burner in stove when wood isn't used
stainless steel billy from Asda (2 for £7.00) into which stove fits
Firesteel from trago (2.99)
Penknife with spoon, fork and knifeblade as well as tin opener and corkscrew
Small .3 litre water bottle for a brew
collapsible beaker with tea bags in it

10L sack
Bivvy bag containing fleece sleeping bag liner for mild weather camping

Obviously one could add the sleeping bag and sleeping pad if colder or more comfort wanted. Extra food and water can easily be carried along with this kit in a small rucksack. This set-up is ideal for stealth or to be carried in car or kayak just in case I want to sleep out and I would add the light frying pan plate.

Forgot to list the ali pot holder shown in the first pic but wire bail could be added if desired.

what do you do if it rains?

Rain while in bivvy bag doesn't really matter it being breathable and waterproof, the kitbag is waterproofish for what clothes one takes off but obviously some shelter is a bonus and to extend the long term use a tarp is nice. There is a danger of course of adding bits and losing the whole essence of lightness and minimal kit. Plus so what if one gets wet really?

On my long walks with overnighting years ago I wouldn't take even this much, just get a short nap somewhere relatively sheltered as and when I felt sleepy. The bottom of a hedge can be really dry and windproof but on the Wiltshire Downs a hollow on short turf could do for the short rest and sleep taken. Disused railway arches in rain and wind are ghastly, the cutting acts as a wind-tunnel.

ahh yeah, I guess that makes sense, I worry about water getting in the top of my bivi and soaking my bag

Hygene stuff? Toothbrush, tootpaste, toilet paper, soap?

If you are bothered by being nice to know, but an alcohol handspray and a couple of small packs of wet wipes + toilet paper can go in the bag easy

Chew a twig for a toothbrush or pop one in.

Half litre saucepan with folding handle marked down from £7 to 1.99 in Mountain Warehouse likewise plastic cup down to 99p. trangia meths burner and John West salmon tine, perforated. There wasn't enough clearance between stove and saucepan so I made a trivet with three tent pegs. Meths bottle is a legal carry on one from an airport.

Nice set up. I saw this burner White box Stove (http://www.whiteboxstoves.com/). Weighs only 30 grams. Maybe something to consider if you really go for saving on weight even more.
