ok lads... gather round... I have a plan

I want to use my trangia burner with my crusader cup on shorter trips

I have found that the cheapy asda chocolate pudding tin would effectively fit the burner inside and provide some level of wind protection. Batter a few holes in it and the air can get in.

Will post when done....just ate so cant stomache a pudding just yet!

Maybe increase the air flow with a few holes in the remainder of the bottom? Certainly got the mind going with this one.

drill holes just inside top and bottom rims at 1/4" spacings. On top holes insert a short length of metal rod or cut down tent peg and voila or put some heavy duty wire mesh across top

well we got proof of concept today, made my coffee with it

definetely need some more holes - not the bottom though, the inner rim i left lies on top of the burner to give an extra bit of height for the cup....

Wire mesh sounds good, you defo need the crusader on the top otherwise it itself will start to interfere with the burning...

still though....hot coffee!

I meant drill holes about 1/4" above and below the rims of the can, so in the main body of it not on the base

In my experience "drilling" holes in these tins can be a bit arkward, and judging by your bloodstained earlier photos - so was the multi-tool and twatometer approach! Get (or make) an awl or bradawl which is effectively a spike with a handle. Mine was made during my furniture production years out of large sharpened nail (minus head) set and glued into an egg-shaped bit of walnut offcut wood.

With a tool like this you can sit quite happily (in front of the telly if you like) with the tin in one hand and the awl in the other carefully pushing and twisting small round holes around the outside of the tin. For more ventilation - just stack-up additional lines of holes, as required - which is as effective as a few big drilled holes. This makes the transition from stressful and dangerous to satisfying and relaxing, a kind of blokey cross-stitch if you like!

just thinking if tin is deep enough to hold all of the trangia so as to make carry tin come windshield , drill some holes and put one of those plastic lids you can buy for pet food on top... probably room iside for small bottle of fuel or other stuff ...;-)

Loved the idea, so I tried but used an old tuna fish tin. Used my hole saw to cut the main hole, then step drilled the
sides with various holes two rows.
Tried it out and my Coleman mess tin fitted right over and basically slowed down the flame until extinguished.
Put a row of smaller holes at the bottom rim and burner kept going but did not boil water before fuel used up.
Could be I need to raise the lip of mess tin to allow better air flow.

Hey thats a pretty good idea!

If you had one of those we dremmel tools you could cut away the sharp edges as well... I just crimped them over with my plyers

Hi I fined if you use a step drill to drill holes in a can,it does not grap it.

Aldi normaly have these sets pretty cheap now and then.

Step drills are the way to go, and yes they don't tend to grab the thin metal. Got my set of three out of Aldi's
think it was £4.99 nice little wooden box to keep them all in.
And hole saws do snatch, so keep a tight grip, I have been using these for years so be careful if you have not used
These before.
