Sorry if this has been posted before wasn't sure anyways wondering if any of ya travel by good old pedal power lets see your rides here's mine 80s vintage Panasonic Sport 1000 12 speed. outside of changing up the tires and doing basic maintenance stuff myself cables tubes brake pads and minor adjustments she's pretty much bone stock at the moment, though will be modding her at one point Yep that is me

You do know that...er...erm...how do I say this...that that's a girl's bike, don't you?
Not that that matters, of course.
But it is.
It's the two down-sloping top tubes. They're like that so that females don't have to cock their legs so high and show things they'd rather not show (assuming they're wearing skirts). Whether that's patronising toward women or not is for you to decide, but that's a key feature of a woman's bicycle.
All that said, it's a great bike and in marvellous condition for its age. There's a real fan-base and collectors market for 80's bikes and you've got a damn good one there. Even if it is a lady's bike...

Hmm...yeah nice tidy bike, but like you say - it needs the horizontal tube installing. Either properly welded (for reasons of strength) or a trekking pole duct-taped on to stop it catching other blokes' eyes as you pass by.
I didn't know Panasonic made bikes. I'll bet you can zoom around on that if it's a lux model, although it may need a wide-angle for turning (especially in a small apeture). Rewind a bit of tape on the handle bars, and a quick wash to erase the mucky film and you'll have something reel-y special. I bet it's got fast-forward gears, although you might need to check each of these bikes frame-by-frame.
i too have a 'girls' frame ,its easier to get on and off when fully loaded with kit!
just a couple of comments on your fine iron horse, firstly the rack on the back would be more useable if at a beter angle, this is easilly achieved by lopping a few inches off, heat the ends with a blow torch and flaten the ends so you can drill holes in the ends again,i did this with mine sucessfully, next would be to change the handle bars, the one you have look cool but the posture is a killer on long rides,in a near upright position youl see more stuff ! good luck with the bike mate its a great form of travel.
btw heres mine, looks crap but is mechanically 100% and is comfortable for towing or solo:

nice bike :), the older ones might be built better, but there also heavier and have less gears etc,if youre traveling round you want a lighter more modern frame, still nice bike im getting nostalic in the late 80s i had one of those wolf bikes as i call it with the computer on the handle bars that made all different types of noises, cant remember to much about it,who made it etc,it was a bmx type bike but pure 80s type bmx bike lol :),
just found on google
Streetwolf was a bike made by Raleigh, in the late 80's early 90's. The bike had lots of extra mud guards and a little computer type screen between the handle bars. The Raleigh Streetwolf also had a trigger next to the left hand grip which, when pressed, made all types of annoying sounds and sirens. Hated by parents and neighbours.

I like the older 80's racing bikes. Sure they're heavy and are short of gears but they've a lot character. Also older bikes usually feel more sturdy, probably because they weigh half a tonne. :). But I figure if the bike has been around 35 years and is still working there must be something good about it.

I thought about changing the bars but in all honesty I do easily 30+ mile rides no issues on the old lady it's the most comfortable ride I have ever had. Absolutely no pain or numbness in my wrists anymore when I ride I actually dig the old drops to the point I'm gonna get an old Schwinn cruiser and turn it into a speedster drops and downtube shifters on it someday
nice ride ya got there oh one other thing far as the rack pretty much keeping it as is for ow got something else in mind for it I also agree with ya bout the frame style really sweet to get off it easy with a load of crap on the back.

She's plenty strong good old steel tubing and nice brazed lugs. And yes I know its a girls frame I got it for nothing from a friend she bought it new bout 25 years ago didnt want it so gave it to me
Not a lot of people do know they made bikes but back in the 70s and 80s they had one of the top racing teams out. It's really a shame they got out of the bike business they made one top notch bike.

Must admit my hybrid bike is still in the garage, but might have to sort it out as most of my woods are a fair distance from the abode, so in stead of walking along fairly busy roads to camp I can ride.

What size tires? you shouldn't have to much to change ya may be able to size up without anything more than new tubes specially if it's got 26s on it

its a saracen m8,and ill have to dig it out at from the back of the shed,it's behind another little project of mine a honda cub 90,i only paid 30 for the push bike it's fairly modern snap shift gears and front suspension, but i do know it needs new tyres,i'ts a hybrid it looks like a mountain bike but it's geared up for road use
ive just measured the circumfrance of the wheel and shes a 26 inch :), my shed needs a clear out aswell, you cant move in there lol :)

I used to ride my Mother's "Palm Beach" bike all over the Wiltshire Downs wonderful ride and sensible sized wheels not kiddy Mountain Bike style. The three-speed Sturmey-Archer gear was all that was needed. Nothing wrong with getting off and pushing or standing up on the pedals as necessary. I am sure it was lighter though than my children's mountain bikes of ten or so years ago.

I've got a GIANT 830 ATX, hard tail with adjustable suspension front forks, with the obligatory seat mounted tool pouch ( all the usual, including tubes, valves, tools + leatherman etc) MTB tires (australian roads are crap, so are the foot paths) shimano sis gears, orig 18 speed, dropped the outer sproket for better clearance over logs etc so back to 12 gears (not built for speed these days anyway) and have a bash guard to protect the sproket. I'll get some pics up, the beast has gone 12 years so far expecting another 12!
ide love one of these:

Ha ha!! I really draw the line at Lycra mate. But some of the mountain bike gear isn't too bad and looks like normal casual stuff. I've heard there are blokes called 'mamils'. This stands for 'middle aged men in lycra', and I don't want to be one of those. :D

So heres the bargain bike off ebay - £12.50 probably worth that in scrap at the moment.
The beginning of the 'Bushbike' project. Fuel is so damned expensive and parking not secure and pricey too i followed this and many other threads and got this one specifically for the job.

The wrapping is cohesive bandage or vet wrap....but for rifles and similar. The OD green tape is made by webtex.
Basically from a 'survival' point of view I will have bandage, tape, inner tube and some 550 on there when i have done. Although its NOT a 'surviva - bike'........but hey theres a thought ;)

So the bushbike is finally complete - total cost....£30 ish including the £12.50 cost of the bike (bikebum i think thats around $60)
3312
Lighting - The big torch is a Cree X3 500 lumens (issued to me for use in the other 'hobby'). Bracket to mount that torch was £2, the other torch is a £1 shop bargain which also came with a rear red LED :D
3313 3315
25 L Panniers(cost £10 and rack bag fitted. The rack bag is an old medical bag i had lying around. The rack bag can be removed to provide a flat platform for addition of a rucksack or other items. A forces 33 rucksack fits on there nicely.
Bottle cage was £2 - bottle free which i had kicking about
3314 3316
First aid Kit and possibles pouches attached (two pouches taken from an old Arktis Assault vest) note 550 cord wrap on seat tube.
I have an optional handlebar bag too, and i have added velcro strips to attach a rolled tarp around the crossbar.
