Hey all, figured I'd start posting up pics of what's keeping me busy these days, will start with this:

A good friend of mine hired me to make him a pair of boot knife sized tanto blades, he wanted them dark, black blades, dark red underwrap, etc. and basically said "stare into the black pool and envision the knives, picture them being made from and made for the black arts" as a way to get me onto the same wavelength as him, so I came up with this (one of two identical knives) I've dubbed "Black Pool" blades:

Will post more pics as I get along, and other blades I make in upcoming weeks.

Might as well update this, my step-dad does home renos as a small business, asked me for a single bevel marking knife similar to a chip carving knife, handle shape didn't matter but wanted a rosewood handle. So I made this:

I want a new knife but I cant afford the prices of the good ones. I have a few old files in my tool box, I think I might have a go at it but I could be doing with a guide on the handle and sheath. Anyone up for helping :D PLeeeeeeasssseee haha

Sorry, missed this. I do the stock removal method, but recently started trying out forging a file to make a knife. Literally, take the annealled steel, cut/grind out the shape, they do most of the bevel, heat treat it, temper in the oven a couple times, then finish the bevel and move towards putting the handle on. Then sharpen, and test. :) As far as wrapping the handle, I leaned how to do the cord wrap via online tutorials and videos, such as this one:

both would be good unless it can be explained easily lol. The info o a short guide should be fine, I have tried finding them online but they all seem abit hard work or to out of my league to attempt lol

Well, let's start with what you have and what you want to do. You want info on making a file into a knife? Or the sheath making?

I have been watching the video's of greenpetes knife making from a file, I have a few old files in my tool box which I am going to attempt a knife or 2 with, I will need help with the handle making and the sheath. Whats the best items to use for these and how can I attach the handle where it is strong and sturdy and wont budge? Also whats the easiest way to make notches in the blade?

Sorry, totally missed this. Make sure the handle is flat, drill your holes (while the steel is still in it's annealled state) where you want the pins or rivets, and just before putting them in, epoxy the handle scales, pin in place and clamp. Notches in the blade, you mean thumb notches? Either a file or a Dremel are the easiest ways.

And, how I saw your post, came here to post some new pics. :)

Thanks Jeep, at least you get a heads up from my page, so you see all new pics. Purpleheart one has been buffed, padauk one has been final shaped and sanded, sitting in the sun now after the first coat of tung oil has been wiped off. Next coat is later, might get started on the sheaths tonight.

Gave CPR to this thread, here's the newest one I'm working on, even got my new logo on there before heat treating!

Looks shark-like, eh?
