Welcome to the site and forum. I'm just down the road from you. Hopefully get to see you at a meet some time. Organising a meet for later this year, for a few local guys. If there is enough room when the numbers come in you're more than welcome to come along.

I know exactly what you mean. Money is a pain in the backside. You'd be surprised though, how little kit you actually need, especially at a meet with others. Something to sleep in (bag or wool blanket), something to sleep under (tarp), Something to eat from (mess kit, billy cans, or just plate and bowl), something to eat with, enough grub (even though food is often bought and shared by others), water container (and maybe some water, depending on site), and clothing (warm, waterproofs and spares). That's about it really. You might want a Mora or some other blade, but it's not essential really. a personal first aid kit is always a good idea, but all meets should have a larger first aid kit anyway, to cover most eventualities. Oh and something to carry your kit in. :)

Thanks Adam for the list of basics, do you do a lot of wild camping in northants and if where would you recomend?

Cheers Scott

I mostly stop out in south Northants. I have use of a site near Farthinghoe, with landowners permission, and stop out in a couple other woods from time to time, but they are more stealth camps (will PM the locations to you) and also a nice spot in Derbyshire, which is around 85 miles up the M1 from Northampton itself.
Most of the time I travel down to Devon to camp on Dartmoor, or find another stealth site every now n then.
