Those of us in Buzzard spent a very pleasant time around our coasts doing nothing but wildlife watching and we got some nice pics, especially of gannets, my favourite sea bird..

I don't like Gannets, they wet their nests...

(From the expurgated version of "Olsen's Standard Book of British Birds.")

They are actually remarkably beautiful. :D

Indeed. Though all this time, I never knew what a Gannet looked like until I saw those photos. Lovely bird, beautiful plumage.

I wonder if you have a copy of Olsen's Standard Book of British Birds.
Olsen's Standard Book of British Birds?
Yes, the expurgated version of course.
The expurgated version of Olsen's Standard Book of British Birds?
Yes, the one without the Gannet.
The one without the Gannet!? They've ALL got the Gannet! It's a standard British bird, the Gannet! It's in all the books!
Well, I don't like them, they wet their nests...

They do breed on your side of the pond.

Maybe they 'wet' him, when he landed at Hunstanton!

No, no; you're thinking of Grate Expectations. Or was that by Charles Dikkens, the well-known Dutch author?

Rossbird, I had no idea they bred over here. After looking it up, it looks like they're a North Atlantic sea-bird, with the largest breeding colony found on Bonaventure Island, Quebec. None down here in the US, as far as I can tell. Too bad, they really are remarkably lovely.

According to my Sibley guide, they do winter off the East Coast of the US.
It doesn't say anything about numbers though.
