clever, simple and cheep. great idea, i saw a program a few years back, one of the grand design shows where a guy built his house in the side of a hill, cutting a long story short, he had a lighting issue to with it being dark in the back rooms, so he employed a similar idea using polished stainless steel tubes running down to the rooms from the roof. all good stuff, well spotted fish.

50-60 Watts, most CFL bulbs (newer ones) are 10-20 watts, because they run off a ballast stepping 240 volts to a few thousand into a gas medium, this is even cheaper as it uses no payed energy. Just the sun.
