Does anyone in yorkshire know where to find some decent hoof fungus? want to try making amadou but cant find any :/

There's very little where I live in NI so I use artists conk, prep it with lye and it's as good as horses hoof.

Just need to walk around some fairly old, mixed, deciduous woodland and keep your eyes peeled. They are there but not always easily visible, similar to Cramp Balls until you 'get your eye in'.

HH fungi you need to go to scotland if you find any south of there id like to see it, possible but rare, most other woody bracket fungi will produce an amadou but wont have the yeald that Fomes F has Ash bracket is good even from the tree..

Plenty of HH in these parts, and on the edge of Dartmoor. Sometimes on beech, sometimes on oak, edit, even on ash.
