just a warning for anybody who uses it for any reason,southbound its closed in 2 sections it they divert you towards bournemouth if youre not careful and further down through yeovil,on to the a30,anybody living in devon or cornwall will have at least another 2 hours added to their journey:guns:

Why the closure?

I had an email from the organisers of the Cranborne Chase Woodfair yesterday letting us know that the closures (didn't say what they were for) would be cancelled over the weekend. Also to warn us about very high winds and to make sure our tents/shelters are well and truely nailed down!

We had a skittles match Tuesday night and had to take a bit of a detour.

Just so everyone knows, we do have other roads than the A303. If anything it's the road to avoid at any time.

i don't know the reason for the closure but it's extremly frustrating,esp wen yer tired lol,also cost of fuel,good job i had a sat nav because the diversion signs dissapeard and only place i recognised was bournemouth which is at least a hundred miles away and proberly about 80 miles from were i stopped the car so 180 miles to get home.managed to hunt the 303 with my sat nav only to be diverted once more,by this time i was really ffd off lol,but luckily i was in somerset and knew were i was going head towards chard im home.they should of warned people further up on the m3.i have complained to the highways agency.reply to further up m4 is no good if youre comming from the west country and going to east london/essex/or kent.ive never ever had a problem with the 303 ,but i thought id post so as to save anbody else the ordeal of frustration in the countryside of wiltshire,which looked very nice incedently shame it was dark lol

I drove up on Monday morning and it was open all the way. Mind you, that was from 5:20 through 7:30. I'm heading back tonight so I'll let you all know what I find.

If you want to check the current (and planned) roadworks and road closures, the highways agency has a website where you can view them on a map and see the details. It seems there will be closures 17 through 22 October from 8pm to 6am between the junctions with the A36 and A350. I'd say it's best to try avoid night travel for a while.

thx bernie i wont be going up for a while now,only go up a couple of times a year to visit family,im happy in devon 100% of the time :),i go up in the small hours of the morning because it's a clear run no jams on the m25 etc.i don't do traffic jams if i can avoid it, way up was great left torbay at 1 in the mornin in kent by 6 just in time for a full english
