Brilliant Jeep....!
Full marks for this, I'm not into re-enactment myself but you certainly do look the part and I love the self bow.
Paul.
Thanks :)
I have been re-enacting for ten years now, I have had some time to pick up all the bits and pieces. It is not only outdoor gear I hoard :D

Brilliant pictures, but you need a cheap plastic bow and beret if your ever to become a real bushcrafter. ;)

Your bow was as authentic as the plastic one, laminated and didn't bend through the handle. Reasonable kit and pleasant pictures though.

I get the impression from the look on your face in the pics you are not happy in front of the camera, you did look proper job in your gear though.

That's a we bit harsh imho. It is true that this is a laminated bow (and that is by itself not authentic), I have chosen a lamited bow over a solid one for several reasons; mainly price and longevity - a solid bow would have been 2-3x the price and it would lose power and eventually break a lot faster. The overall shape of the bow is historical though - as is the way it performs.
Are you a historican/archaeologist/re-enactor yourself?

True, I am not very photogenic, when I know I am being photographed.

Where did you get your bow from Jacob? Out of interest.

Mine is a Standard Longbow - Hickory back, hardwood core; http://www.bickerstaffebows.co.uk/proddet.php?id=86&prodname=standard-longbow---hickory-back%2c-hardwood-core - mine is with a dark brown core.

Yes I re-enact and use a laminated bow as well for the reasons you give but I hope to make myself a self-bow some day which does more than the hazel ones I have done up to now. I did have an elm Holmgaard which has split slightly so it can only be used as a static display item in our prehistoric Living History events. Will be organising two medieval events Battles of Slaughterbridge and Camlann at the Arthurian Centre, Camelford, Cornwall next July and August to which you, and any other re-enactors on here, would be very welcome.

Great pics Jeep.
Got me wondering, does Denmark have a Robin Hood type figure in it's folklore?

The Holmegård bows are beautiful pieces. Interestingly; you are not the first one I have heard about, having replicas of these particular bows break on them.
Thank you for the invite, but both events are way to "early" for me. I re-enact late 15C, have been doing so for ten years now; www.aarhus-middelalder.dk

We have now ;)
The closest thing we have, actually, must be the story of the 17C highwayman/partisan Jens Langkniv (Jens Longknife) - he was known for carrying a large knife, with a string attatched, which he alledgedly had a habit of throwing and retrieving afterwards via the string.

Very nice kit and pics!
I'm not photogenic either, as you, when I know there is a camera around. You can kind of see my hatred of that piece of gear.......... lol

25 years re-enacting for me from viking through to English/Scottish Border Rievers! It's addictive isn't it!
Your kit looks really good Jeep and i wouldnt worry about the bow. We cant all afford totally authentic stuff and as long as we explain the differences to the public then its not a problem. Anyway, what's authentic? I know loads of folk who are "authentic" but don't weave their own cloth nor slaughter their own food so realistically it's pretty impossible to be totally authentic IMHO.
I agree about the bow breakages! I had a yew bow break on me and i dont know what hurt most - the cost of replacement or my head and dangly bits that took the brunt of the break!!
Looking good there Thumbcrusher.
Re-enactment is a very addictive hobby indeed - it is the ultimate gear obsession :)
