Hi, this is my first post and I'm very new to bushcraft and indeed almost anything outside for any length of time, so I'm afraid I'm woefully uneducated on the subject but would like to give it a go.
I'm making this post to ask about sharpening knives and axes.

I've got a Svord Peasant knife (partly due to the excellent review video), and an Opinel; I have a vague idea of how to sharpen the Peasant knife, because I can see where the bevels and all that are, but the Opinel (correct me if I'm wrong) is a convex grind which I've heard is difficult to sharpen.
Any advice on sharpening either knife would be immensely appreciated.

I also have an old axe from my grandmother, which she tells me was used by her father. I asked my dad what to use to sharpen it up a bit and he suggested a file. I've managed to get it chopping things alright, but looking at the videos, I can tell straight off that all your axes are far sharper. Should I keep my axe very sharp, or would you recommend not getting it to razor level just yet due to my relative inexperience?
If further sharpening would be a good idea, what should I use?
Once again, any advice would be greatly appreciated. :)

The svord is a convex, the opinel is a flat grind with a micro bevel, a sharpmaker works exceptionally well on an opinel, and sandpaper and mousemat or a wrist rocking motion on a stone works well for the peasant.

For the axe I heard you can use a sanding flap wheel on a drill if you're in a hurry.

Depen,s wot you wont to do with you'r axe,if you wont it as a camp axe to split wood for the fire use a file,if you wont to carve with it,it will need a bit more work, file, wet&dry, then a wet stone, then a leather strop attached to a wooden bored. It tackes time to get a shaving edge on an old axe but it can be done.I can shave the hairs on my arm with my GB but it comes with a good edge.Atb.....DONT GET EATEN BY THE BEARS...........TONY.:o

The Svord actually has a micro bevel, not a convex. It doesn't take a lot to blend it into a convex though. :)
