Hi folks, having got interested in making walking sticks, I'm progressing a bit from thumbsticks from one piece of wood, to a walking stick that needs a wrist strap, and I want to make it out of leather and have it work the same way as a wrist strap on a commercially available trekking pole.
However, I want it to look nice as well, and I was wondering if any kind soul could tell me how to make a wrist strap out of plaited leather thong? I'm ok with the actual plaiting, but how do you finish it off so it's a proper strap, and what would be a good way to get it through the smallish hole in the stick?

Hi,
Haven't done a plaited one, nor do I drill a hole through the shank as I think this introduces a weakness (just my opinion though). I use a leather lace and tie it it a constrictor knot to give a simple hand loop. The knot looks good and never shifts.
Guess you could adapt this for a plaited loop?
