Got an old saw that's been layin around here I'm toying with redoing it up. Still got a pretty good sharp blade but the handle is close to beyond shot. Got some maple I'm gonna split down to size and carve out a custom handle. Thinking about cutting a small section of the blade off may even take the piece and turn to a small knife, Anyways lemme know what y'all think of the saw. Think she might make a good pack saw yep gonna do up a scabbard for her to at one point

Ah, now you say........................... all good, now at least you know what you can do if you come across any old saw blades (the one I used here was brand new, never touched wood, except for the camp stove made forge touching charcoal.........but was only about $7 new, so isn't an issue for old vs. new, same as files for making knives.)

A new saw blade to turn into a knife? And a picture of the handle on what? Lol, the ulu above has a handle. The rest of the saw blade was tossed out, steel isn't good enough to make a knife from in that blade, but the ulu turned out ok enough for kitchen play.

It's quite interesting to use, as in it takes some getting used to and one cant cut fast with it. But it's cool....

By straight blade you mean a knife made from the same saw blade?

Yeah I have seen a few straight blades made though kinda funky looking with a bit more curve to them. One guy on another site he does it pretty regular out of them sorta think its his trademark to in a way lol

Ah, ok. Ya, only pics I have of knives I made are all from flat ground tool steel, and a couple I made from files, still gotta try to finish the four-in-hand rasp knife I made this past spring, it's pretty odd......

Thanks, hammered it out for the heck of it when playing with my woodstove forge, and it did turn out pretty rough yet cool looking, still sits like this in my tool box, keep forgetting I have it.

Thanks, but honestly, blame the beer..............

Just started a Scout knife for TreeFrog, purpleheart handle, will post pics in my other thread. Also looking to do one with the curly maple I bought recently, should be, as you guys say, bril!
