Its the highlander survival tin, it was empty when i bought it.
It's watertight, it has a rubber seal that the clips tighten.

From tesco :D
The gaps at the bottom were originally small slots like the ones at the top, i used a pair of pliers to twist and snap them off.

Here is my version of a hobo stove and cook set. I've made a new alcohol burner since this video was made that is more fuel efficient and water reaches boiling point quicker.

I'm trying to make a napatha stove, still not working yet, I don't mind the soot because I can use cans as a pot to boil water, etc.
It needs alot of oxygen to work.

interesting that it fits a zebra billy
Hi folks,
Just finished the basics of my Hobo stove. It's based around a 12cm Zebra billy and uses a cutlery drainer.
Fingers still sore from filing stainless, wasted a few drill bits too, still, rather pleased with the finished product.
http://i594.photobucket.com/albums/tt23/acgirling/Kit/P2012933.jpg
That's it's first brew with the Trangia burner. I made the legs to be able to burn solid fuel and not scorch the ground. They might well be an exercise in hard work, but I like that little separation from the ground they give. My boys like them too, as they're already asking if we can fire up the rocket again!
I've a couple of things to do to finish the whole brew kit set-up, but when I do I'll post a set of pic's showing a breakdown of the components.
Thanks for looking.

No! Being simple minded is often the only way!

No! Being simple minded is often the only way! its so easy to over engineer when too long is spent dwelling on a project....I feel this is perhaps not a bad thing but a thing born of enthusiasm ....but I agree simple is best.
Well, I said I'd add a couple more shots of my stove, so here goes.
Here's the complete thing in it's bag.
http://i594.photobucket.com/albums/tt23/acgirling/Kit/Dr_Zarkovs_Stove/P2032934.jpg
Out of the bag to show how it all packs away.
http://i594.photobucket.com/albums/tt23/acgirling/Kit/Dr_Zarkovs_Stove/P2032935.jpg
All the bits.
http://i594.photobucket.com/albums/tt23/acgirling/Kit/Dr_Zarkovs_Stove/P2032936.jpg
And a close-up of the legs. I've used some bath plug chain to keep them together, so now, instead of losing one I'll lose the lot together.

Nice work there Al, stainless is a bu88er to work with so you did good...
Just love the look of the assembled stove, reminds me of my distant youth and those Sat morning matinee's with Buck Rogers :-)

Love the cooker legs. I might have to make some like that for my hobo too. Thanks for the idea!
Steve :)
Cheers guys!
Paul, the early science fiction image has been commented on elsewhere and I'm now using the 'Dr Zarkov Stove' (of Flash Gordon fame) to describe it. :)
Steve, I wanted the legs to get some space between stove and the ground, but another benefit is that they make the stove much more stable.
