I took a few photos of the Scout knife I bought from CanadianMike. The finish on this knife is really impressive; love the look and feel.

I'm thinking the shape of this blade would be a real winner for skinning small animals, especially mink, weasels, maybe otter...
hope I can get a chance to try it out.
Nicely done, Mike.

Thanks guys! Yes Adrian, the handle is purpleheart.

Jack, don't be afraid about using that to skin deer too, I made a similar one for a co-worker who deer and moose hunts, but his has a shorter blade with less of a point (I made yours with an extra sharp point for your use), and he loves using it for the skinning purpose, similar shaped handle (is one I made just over a year ago, and likely sits as my third knife made) and feel, so subject it next fall to bigger things.

Here's Gary's knife (rosewood handle wet with linseed oil):

You can 'import' to England. There's nothing whatsoever from stopping you buying something from Mike and him sending it over to you.

Exactly. When I get the time in the next week, I'll be starting on the Shaman knife that HappyBonzo (Phil) wants me to make for him, and Fletcher just ordered a Scout from me too, so I'll be testing the waters in January by mailing knives over to you guys. No reason why it won't go through....

Yes, you can buy purple heart in England. Mine arrived today :). From Stiles and Bates (http://www.stilesandbates.co.uk/product.php/section/0/sn/PURSB_MST). Good price too. £1.55 for a 6 inch long 2 inch square piece. T^

Is easy, sand this way + and then this way X, then this way -> towards the point, then move to the next grit up.............all the way to 2000x. I start at 220x if there are scratches, otherwise 320x or 400x.

I shall give that a go Mike. Thanks buddy. Will report back with progress. :)

Good luck! Isn't that hard, and I'll often play with alternating wet and dry rubs.......... no jokes!! Lol, but ya, I find the finish turns out better with dry paper. If I want to go for a polish I'll turn the buffing wheel on and use some honing compound with 0.5 micron grit in it to mirrorize the finish.
