Good Evening

I thought I would say hello as I am a new starter here. My name is Al (although I tend to get called Owl after the daughters of a friend got my name wrong and it seemed to stick). I will look forward to spending time here and will no doubt ask plenty of questions. I do quite a bit of wandering the outdoors after dark and jotting down my thoughts and sketches.

I will look forward to reading your words of wisdom as I find bushcraft folk are some of the most down to earth people I have had the pleasure to meet.

Welcome Owl (Al), Hope you find some interesting things. Like you I'm out wandering most nights with my dogs, do little bits and pieces on the trail. Keep notes and sketches in a little A5 Leather Journal - very gratifying if I do say so myself.

:welcome: to the community here Al, I look forward to sharing with you.

What do you sketch if you don't mind me asking? Drawing is one of those things I wish I could do, but I'm terrible at! :ashamed:

Thanks for the welcomes, its great to get a friendly response.

Nice to see I am not the only wanderer. It seems the A5 sketch/note book is a favourite for Mike & I (I am also a Bolton lad, but live in rural Nottinghamshire now).

Ashley: I will sketch most things, landscapes, buildings, people, wildlife etc. Just about anything that catches my eye. The blog I do involves very quick loose sketches (5 or 10 minutes maximum with an old fountain pen). But I also do much more finished work and analytical building/construction sketches. If you are interested here is a link to some drawings I have on flickr, the blog I do is at the signature in the bottom

If you feel you can learn or communicate something from drawing it down, I wouldn't worry about a sketch being rough or not right. Like any skill, the more you use it the better you will get (generally because of learning from mistakes!). You never know, a rough sketch or two might help jot down new things you find when you are enjoying your bushcraft work.

Wow, They're not sketches, they're works of art, I'd be happy to have those up on a wall!!!

Thanks for the comments, much appreciated.

When I get time, it would be good to sketch up the different forms of bushcraft natural shelters. I will add that one to me "to do list"
