This is pic heavy so putting it on in batches of three pics. I hope you can follow the sequence easily enough.

I’ve been using boil in the bag meals lately with my Swedish army trangia cooker and very nice they are too. However I find that usually I burn my hand holding the bag and the meal cools down quite quickly, shortly after burning my hand!

So I went to asda and bought three of their smart price mouse mats for the princely sum of 50 pence each with a view to making an insulated pouch to put my hot boil in the bag scoff and therefore save myself burned hands and keep my food warmer for longer.

Had some contact adhesive in the shed so used that to put it together. I’m considering sewing the seams as well but thought I’ll use it a few times first to see how the thing holds up without the extra work of sewing.

So, off to work! On some of the pics you can see yellow numbers on the bits of mousemat. They are just measurements in cm in case you wanted them, (assuming they show up in the pics that is!)…..

Well it seems to all fit in the pouch ok so I’ll give it a try hot at the weekend.

Oh and if you have a go at making one don't forget to get glue all over the kitchen worktop or your missus won't have anything to moan about lol!

Like the idea, but I just sit the pouch in one of my ally mugs,

Looks a bit like those pouches you get with the reuseable ice packs at home

Great work. I must admit, I just wear a glove to stop burning my hand but this does look pretty Gucci. :)

I like the bottom piece, I've been messing around with the reflectix stuff for a while but not sussed out a good bellow for the bottom. Might have to borrow that one :)

That's the kind of train of thought I like to see. Total spend one and a half quid! Good job you had some glue already or that would have added about 6 quid to the cost.

I use a towel. Like this idea though, lots of mileage in it for other mods.

Nice job. I never considered using mouse pads in that way, I'll be giving it a try.

Love this idea and cheap too, tidy appearance because the outers are precut shapes, very imaginative use of materials.

Along the same lines I made a can cosy that is just right for the regular bean / soup can, it was made from a pound shop roll mat (obviously £1) cut it up and covered it with foil tape (could just stick tin foil on), only the top 1.5cm of the can pokes out.
Boil the opened can with the label off, then drop it in the cosy - keeps it hot and stops it burning your fingers, also saves dirtying a billies. Cosy keeps it's shape in your pack if you take the can in it. (Iknow it's not foraging but is is convenient)
fyi, Tesco value rice pudding is a favourite of mine,
