Anyway went up Troserch woods, pretty good time, just had a brew, made some bean and sausages with my stove. Only stayed 3 hours, if I stayed longer I would have maybe tried to make a shelter there.
And I found someone had tried to make an A frame double lean-to, not very good, was a very bad place to make it (in bog and soggy mud)
Overall it was a good time, I took my rubbish with me as you should.
Pics (sorry about the quality taken from 1.3MP phone)
The lean-to is pic 4

Thanks mate!
I might go camping there soon, not sleeping in shelters I'll just take a tent and when I can actually make a decent shelter maybe then I will use it to sleep in.

I think building a shelter is a bit over rated at times as long as it doesnt collapse on you, keeps the water out and isnt built on a bog/marsh it should be ok (a dry base helps LOL). A bit like trial and error you could set your tent up then have a go at a shelter if it doesnt work out you would still have your tent to fall back on :)
I hope this helps but I'm sure the other guys will have some better tips for you.

Beautiful place. :)
It's good to know how to build a shelter (and fun building it). I believe everyone should have a go, as long as you dismantle afterwards as you said you did.
Personally, one a day walk, I've always got a DD poncho in my bag as this can be converted to a good rain cover.

Well I've built a frames and lean-to's, I even found a cat sleeping in one of the a frames I built. Unless you need to build a long term shelter I would only need to take my knife and DC4. And if I take a tent, if the insulation is bad on the shelter I could sleep in the tent ^^
When I go there next I'll take a better camera too. :)

Nice pics even from a phone.
Heres a shelter that I built, front not quite finished with leaf litter yet but was too warm during the night and had to kick off the sleeping bag.

I used ostrich fern for one of my shelters like yours, But the only thing about fern it decays badly, this time of year it's good to use as a tinder bundle, or even kindling.
Very good shelter!

That forest is pretty clean too, the only forest near me, Troserch, is pretty messy at parts.

We could have a bush meet to rival the cornwall one in Troserch with all the people on here now local to Troserch... Sorry I missed your intro Brendan Welcome from Llangennech. Nice pics BTW.

That would be nice, it would be good to see other fellow bushcrafters.
