I'm posting this in response to Phil's brew in the woods kit, as he said posting mine might be of interest - I know I always enjoy seeing other people's ideas and kit. This is generally what I day hike with in summer, late spring and early autumn, but when it gets colder I go to a backpack to carry more clothing and stuff. Since it's been pretty mild this winter I've not had to change.. yet!

A pic for Phil showing the hip pack and bottle pouch setup, it really is quite comfortable, and adding a bottle pouch means I can carry a lot more water than without. I generally use the hip belt to balance out the weight but it is usable, albeit a little less comfy without it on.

I forgot that I wanted to take contents pics when I was out until it started to get dark so I did it when I got back and re-stocked.. Some may find this of interest - the walk I did that day, I went to an old firing range on Ashdown Forest and found loads of old spent rounds.. Have them soaking in coke right now to clean them up a bit.

First I emptied my pockets and belt out..

Starting with the bottle pouch, here's the contents - stuff on the left goes in front pouch.

Fold up seat - love this thing
Rolled up space-tarp
Mora knife
First aid kit

Pocket spew:
Multitool and torch - go on belt
Becker Eskabar neck knife - goes.. round my neck
P-cord wrap and watch - goes..
Keys on tether - Firesteel, striker and tinder capsule / little knife, prybar & peanut lighter / mini torch & micro whistle
Bandana
Butane lighter
Folding saw
Buff, mini first aid kit and my beloved SAK
Survival tin, survival blanket and phone in "waterproofed" bag
Oh, forgot to take my main compass and lightweight gloves out of my rain jacket too!

Bottle front pouch:
Couple of cuppa soups
Couple of bevvies
Some random cracker (wtf?)
Spork
Bag of hand wipes, sugars and whiteners
Ziplock bags
Backup tinder and firesteel
Oh, also in here goes a snickers bar but the missing one now resides in my BELLY.

Bottle main pouch:
Big black SS bottle, folding cup (just in case I have company), metal mug with lid and cosy, pic showing how all fits into pouch.. I put a piece of cord round the mug so it's easy to get out, otherwise it's so snug it is a mission trying to slide it out..

Hip pack side pouches:
Camera
Esbit stove, tinder box with the usual suspects- fatwood, cotton wool, esbit, birch bark etc, foil tray and little bag

Hip pack front pouch:
Lighter
Hand sanitiser
Chapstick nested in my torch lantern attachment
Opinel no.7
Couple of glow sticks
Waterproof pen and note pad
Orange bandana
FFD - always have one of these when I'm carving
Spare survival blanket - in case I have company
More Ziplock bags! Uses are endless.

Hip pack main compartment:
Work Gloves
Toilet paper
House and car keys
Mobile - sometimes.
Compass / thermometer
Pencil & permanent marker
Water filter with straw and spare pre-filters
Spoon carving knife
Food for free book
Survival playing cards - a pack of cards and survival literature all in one!
DC4 Sharpening stone
2x spare batteries
Wire saw
Spare FOOD!
Backup whistle and firesteel with striker
Torch headband
Fenix LD20 with red filter on, to protect lense and also it's useful to have. Usually near the top so I can grab it first to find stuff.
Container of waterproof matches
Hanks of cord, one in a bright colour to trail mark if I need to
A "Oh dear will be out longer than I thought" kit - Survival blanket, rubble sack, zip ties, duct tape, water bag & some puritabs.

This stuff works for me and has done for years, it is always changing depending on what I've learnt or realised I want to have/don't need, I carry a few things for the novelty and just for the interest of using them, different tinders, wire saw, glow sticks, survival tin, orange bandana, opinel knife - a particular redundant redundancy.. but it holds sentimental significance and I like how easy it is to sharpen. I know it's not essential to have certain things in England or when you have something that makes it totally redundant, but using different things interests me and gives me enjoyment, and that is after all what it is about!

I hope this may be of interest to some people. Any suggestions on alternatives or changes would be great, I'm always looking to improve my system.

Take care all. :camping:

Blimey. I think I used to carry a lot less in my webbing on exercise. Water bottle and cup, mess tins with stove inside and a lighter and a few soup sachets, poncho and FAK and a buck combat knife. The other stuff was taken up with mags and S10 ressie. Saying that it was nice to have a Bergen filled with sleeping bag and water and clothes and more food. And some chocolate. Oh and some curry powder and a few carrots and onions. And some earl grey tea bags. And some emergency chocolate. And a bit of spare chocolate. And the back up chocolate. And the emergency spare back up chocolate. Thank Christ I've never smoked as I would have ended up lugging a carton of 200 fags in with me as well. To be fair though I got wiser, this day and age my all day kit is some water, a pot and handle, a honey stove, a lighter and some red bush tea bags and a little pack of instant noodles and a plastic mug. Would usually have my old super swede or opinel in my pocket for making a feather stick.

If it fits in and there's a chance it may come in handy, I'll AV IT! ;)

Glad some people found it useful!

This is the kind of thread I joined this forum to read :D

For a late blooming bushcrafter like myself, any tips, nudges and ideas on what may be useful kit are greatly appreciated and this thread has certainly got me thinking T^

You'll like more shiny stuff from an old post here as well then (http://www.naturalbushcraft.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?716-Fletch-s-Bug-Out-Bag&highlight=fletch%27s). :)

Sorry Martin :off-topic: I know, but I'll bring it back.

these sort of threads, as voiced by Kernowek Scouser, are great for newcomers and seasoned outdoorsmen/women alike. I enjoy checking out other folks kit, in fact most of the kit I have has come from seeing others gear and copying they.
I was gonna post my latest kit pack on this thread, but I think I'll start another as it's tailered for a specific trip.

cheers
