Ok so stuck somewhere between ill health and being on holiday I decided to do some carving.

The top one is Silver Birch which followed the formation of how the tree bent and the bottom one is a Cherry spatula.

The spatula still needs some more knife work and sanding but it's getting there.

Lovely! :) Really like the look of the bends and grain. I too have been carving a bit of a funky wooden cutlery set for myself out of some Birch, I should post up some pics myself.

How long is your spoon roughly?

That's a rather personal question mate, asking a boy how big his spoon is on the first date.

But since you ask it (the spoon) is 12" long.

More of a serving/stirring spoon for camp stews than an eating spoon.

I've uploaded the photo to the forum from my iPhone 4 via Taptalk if that makes any difference?

I'm not technically minded I'm afraid.

Thanks Ade, loud and clear now.
Nice shape on the spoon and I like how the spatula is off centre

Cheers fellas. I think I'm gonna have a go at a butter knife next.

Although I have to say that I don't really like carving cherry now. It seems to split and crack a little too easy for my liking.

Ade, Why don't you finish one of your "Romany Bushcrafter" knives if your bored?

The guys and gals on here would love it, I'm sure.

Cheers Phil. I've always shied away from carving lots of spoons as seems to be the bushcraft way (I only have one mouth after all), but I have a new found admiration for carving lately. I guess that the real trick is just to follow the shape of the wood and see what happens.

Thanks guys I really appreciate it. Also I'm back up to full health again now, so I'm off to the forest again this weekend so I may do a bit more carving.
