Made these 3 this week.

Hi folks.

I've been busy in the workshop this week and made these 3 knives. 2 of them are for me, and one will be up for sale soon.

These first two are mine, both handled in African Blackwood with black liners and brass fittings.

The bottom one is handled with stabilised black ash burl, black liners and brass fittings.

No sheaths yet as i'm waiting on some more leather

Beautiful! How do you etch your design onto your blades? I've been trying all kinds of things, none work well at all for me.

Ya, saw that coming! Lol, tried that myself with letter stamps (I only wanted text anyways), was hard to line each up and also got bounces, so gave it up and looked for something else. Did you have the stamp made for you? Or made yourself?

I had it made, cost me about £70 iirc. If i try hold the stamp then i get a double stamp too so i've learned to let the stamp stand on the blade on its own, then hit it hard with a slight angle rather than flat. The stamp pings off into a stop i made to catch it and it gives a nice stamp with no double lines ;)

I wish black ash burl was more readily available over here. As it is i have to import it from one of my suppliers in the US. Not cheap either, after postage, import tax, vat and handling charges it works out at about £35/40 per set of scales :(

Interesting.......... do you stamp while the steel is in an annealed state or during heat treating when it's around critical?

When its in its annealed state. I tried heating the steel to make it softer and thus the impression deeper. But i got worried about losing the temper on the stamp through heat transferance. Now i just hit it harder. It takes a while to get the confidence up to get the blow right the first time, but nothing good ever comes easy, and mistakes must be made. :)

Exactly! I tried both ways, and was worried for the same. I may get a custom branding iron made, for wood and leather anyways, doesn't do much for my cord wrapped handled knives though. Then again, those to tend to involve a Kydex sheath, which would work there, provided I just warm the brand instead of make it burning hot.
