Wood carvers

I'v made about 12 spoons,no problem,I started on a KUKSA on saturday afternoon gord hard work or wot.Things you dont now and havent been told by the carvers on ear,unless you'v been doing it for years after a day you'r hands will be killing you.Dont bring it in doors to show the mises and leve it there,it will split,Jon mac never said about that,wot do you do if one of you'rs cracks Jon:please:Its done now apart from the oiling but boy it is hard work Jon makes it look so easy.My attempt386938703871and with my bought one3872with two of my spoons:rock-on:

Shame about the crack mate but you got further than me and it still looks good :) I made a little dent in the one I tried and after about ten mins it went in the fire LOL

Looks very good,....get some of the saw dust off the wood while you're sanding it, mix it thickly with good epoxy resin and push it into the crack,once it's sanded and oiled it will look just like a feature in the wood..

Well I didn't even notice the crack to start with, I thought it was part of the design/handle! Why not use the split as part of the design and use the resin or glue to stop it progressing further? Shame to lose a good cup for that.

Beautiful work Tony. My first couple of attempts had some major splitting to. On my third one the beech one I'm doing up some hairline cracks forming but got it sitting in a ziplock bag now. What kind of wood did you use?

Sorry to laugh but I know your pain from when I used my crook knife the first time my forearm never hurt so bad it was burning after the first 15 minutes of use :D don't bother me so much now days. But yeah John makes it seem easy doesn't he? LOL

Tony.. That has split because you have used the centre of the wood to make it from.. Its best to split your wood in half and use either side, as most of the splits will come from the centre. That and drying it out too fast will cause splits to form.

the glue and saw dust works well but get plenty of dust in the glue so it dosn't just look like glue when you sand it

3921Finnished the Kuksa and a spoon from the other harf of the log,sorted the split in the handle out and put a bit of decoration on them both39223923
