I remember as a child searching for birds nests, I never felt the need for a egg collection, plenty of mates did.
This guy is 49 and still *at it*.
Is it obsessive, or is he making money from his ill gotten gains.
The damage these idiots do to rare breeding birds shouldn't be underestimated. Shame we can't cut their hands off.
Rant over:mad2:

Gonshaw, of Bow, east London, is currently serving his fourth prison term for egg collecting.

So by the sound of it, a prison sentence is ndeterrentnt.
The man obviously is displaying obsessional behaviour. He may well need psychiatricric help but he certainly won't get it.
Please don't misunderstand me: I am not condoning his behaviour

I understand where your coming from happybonzo.
Having read a little more regarding this guy, he may well have some issues. He was imprisoned in 2002 and is currently serving, I think his fourth sentence for the same offence.

However many of these egg collectors steal to order, for a good return. If he is in this bracket, then I will find it difficult to sympathise.
If he is in need of help, I hope he gets it. In the mean time maybe we should build Hadrians wall a little higher!!

Thats why I will never tell anyone where a nest is. I know of a hawk and an eagle nest within a few km from where I live. Will never bring a cam there and put it online, for fear of someone like that finding out...

FF - It's a sad state of affairs when knowledge like this has to be suppressed.

After recently learning some basic skills of tracking deer and spotting signs of them I've had alot of success recently, and its so satisfying.
Also on my list are otters and badgers but like your local hawks and eagles these are hard to find and there is very little information on exact locations due to the occasional idiot!

Won't stop me looking though.
