Hi all. Any suggestions for making cattail tinder burn longer? I tried to ignite some fluff from cattail that I collected last fall. O boy it dissapeared in a flash. Wonder which material I can mix with this to make it burn long enough to transfer heat to kindling or other tinder?

Birch bark scrapings are good and burn for quite a while. :)

as above or dry grass or cleavers or dry pine needles
Try charring it like cloth.

Why not use the cattail itself? Fluff up a bit of it, ember it, the rest of the cattail is packed intact and should act like charcloth, holding the ember for longer than the fluff will due to fuel > oxygen.
Am I wrong?

Great. Maybe I should try to save the cobb intact, so it doesnt fluff up. Thanks.

A little off topic but as kids we used to dip them in kerosene. They'd burn for a really long time just like a torch. A dozen really light up a camp.
