Well doing up a pair of spoons for a friend based on a silver spoon I found in my kitchen drawer here is where I am at so far made from beech. I did hit the bottom of the bowl with a tiny bit of oil just to bring the grain out a bit though needs to be thinned a tiny bit more and final handle shaping

Looking great, I'm sure your friend will appreciate them.

I was whittling a funky spoon out of some Apple wood yesterday but it's started to develop cracks :mad2: Don't know if it'll be recoverable.

Depends how bad but you might be able to salvage it with super glue. I have an apple kuksa blank that I just took a look at I knew from when I started working it the piece had some really wicked checking in it but now it is beyond saving. I might be lucky enough to get a couple spoon blanks from it. Shame to it was a pretty piece of wood. I have noticed apple tends to do that bad when green to have had a few pieces split bad on me but it was worth a shot for the gorgeous grain out of it. take a pic of yours see how bad the crack is

Thanks guys will be doing a bit more on the handle later on today
