Wanted - Stereo microphone for use with a camcorder

Hi folks

I was wondering if any of you good people had or new where I could get my hands on a stereo microphone for my camcorder. Whilst I love making my videos for YouTube, the sound i believe lets them down.

I've just invested in a new HD camcorder but I need an external mic which will slide onto the hot shoe holder on top of the camcorder.

I've had a look around "the bay" but they are either too expensive or will take a millennium to get here from China.

So I guess my question is, do you have one you are willing to sell or do you know where i can get a descent one for a reasonable cost.

Descent cost would be somewhere between a nice shiny sixpence and £80 tops.

And yep, as I said before it needs to sit in the camera's hot shoe. Ideally a stereo mic would be great.

I have not used the mic Martin has linked to, so I can offer no opinion on it. But Technica are a solid brand and the fact Creative Video, who are a 'go to' retailer for production professionals, are stocking it, suggests it is a reasonable product.

My advice would be to speak to someone at somewhere like

tell them what camera you have, what you intend to use the mic for and what your budget is and see what they recommend.

One thing to keep in mind. Whatever mic you do buy, for good outdoor audio you should also think about investing in a dead cat (http://www.creativevideo.co.uk/index.php?t=product/rode_deadcat), as the majority of mic wind shields that come as standard are rubbish in windy (or even gentle breezy) conditions.

One last thing, clip mics are ideal when filming interviews, in studio conditions, where no body moves about much. In any other situation, an improvised boom pole e.g. walking pole + gaffer tape, should suffice.
