Just out of curiosity what kind of lighter do people prefer to carry here on the forum? I used to use zippos a lot but had problems with how they eat through fuel. I have now been carrying an IMCO super 6700 lighter around for about a year and a bit now and have found it great. They are fairly cheap and I particularly like the 'candle' bit that you pull from the bottom - very handy for firelighting/stovelighting.

So what are people's preferences when it comes to lighters?

Back when I was smoking I carried a zippo, whenever it was not lost. Else, whatever they had where I bought them...

Used to do the whole Zippo thing many moons ago but got fed up with the fuel issue. Then went to cheapy lighters, then clippers, back to cheapy lighters and even tried some of those gas winproof types that just didn't seem to be windproof.

Back on the clippers again.

From recent postings that I have seen (if I maybe so bold - being a newby an' a' that) I presume that person is Jones, your faithful "butler" or is that "family retainer"!? ;-)

Ha ha, close. Invariably, it's Cawley, the Natural Bushcraft founder. ;)

Seriously though, I really don't carry a lighter only a fire steel that was given to my by Ashley. That, along with cotton wool balls or even just a tissue is enough to get a fire going either on the ground or in my Honey Stove. My preferred way of cooking when out on the moors is gas with my MSR Pocket Rocket and that always fires up first time with my fire steel.

Really, no need to carry a lighter so I don't.

It's the Imco 6800 streamline and its ace, but i am a smoker.
The candle feature is what swayed it for me.

If I'm honest, I never really started regularly lighting my fires with a fire steel until a couple of years ago. Before that, I always counted on matches or a lighter. More often than not it was a Bic and I still carry at least two as back ups. I like redundancy.

I carry a zippo, had it eleven years now so it's a bit battered, but zippo do honour there life time warranty as I sent mine back to the states when I snapped the lid off and the fixed it for free. Any one know if you can stil get those little fuel capplets any more( used to look like "karvol" capsules?). Paul

I find that it really makes lighting things easier than with a regular lighter.

I finally got around to buying an IMCO (http://www.thebushcraftstore.co.uk/imco-petrol-lighter---choice-of-models-580-p.asp)

but I also have these storm lighters about. I find it really handy for burning off oiled up spark plugs LINKY (http://www.rvops.co.uk/turbo-flame-lighter-1764.html) I think that I've got these in all our vehicles now
