If dry hay or similar is available one could stuff a bivvy bag with it and snuggle inside, stuffing a bit more around one when inside thereby doing without a sleeping bag.. I did a 1066 reeneactment in authentic Anglo-saxon shoes stuffed with hay and although the temeratures were below freezing my sockless feet remained warm so hay works.
In fact any bag that was big enough would do, the hay providing a water-resistant layer whether from condensation or rain.
