Hi all, just had a great day blacksmithing, down here in Kent with Ross out at Petts Bottom.
Great guy and ended up with a wide variety of forged equipment. Started simple with a poker so it started by drawing the metal to a point then some bending to shape a crook before a nice little scroll, then onto some metal twisting, and finally the point.
Then using part of a horse shoe forged a lovely knife, also done the burning oil, and the tempering. Really pleased with this and can't wait to get a good sharp edge on it.
Then some finer stuff, a little metal leaf so pleased with this, then still had time so made a lovely pot hanger for the open fire.
Finally made a beautiful toasting fork, with a scroll on the handle and another little twist in the shaft,
Can't recommend Ross enough, and his lovely wife had sorted out a fantastic lunch for us, and all this in a beautiful quite country environment.
Great day :happy-clapping:

I believe Ross took a few and is going to email them, so when I get some up they will go. But in the mean time I will take some pictures of the aforementioned bits and post them.

many thanks for the welcome i mostly run basic blacksmith courses going though the basic skills such as bending twisting and drawing out basically everything you will need for making simple items on a forge
but am also happy to run courses in any aspect of blacksmithing
hope this is of some help

Sounds good. Got most of the basics sorted myself, but interested in forge welding. Have a couple kg of Borax and a couple of ammonium chloride for the flux. I know it shouldn't be too hard to do (after all, it's only repeated bending, drawing, and upsetting), but would be useful to know any tips/techniques that would make a better quality weld.

borax is what i use just try not to breath it in as not to good for you i no you can mix it with ac but i found borax to work well for me
not sure if you have tried fire welding but do not expect it to work first time all i can say is practice a lot on scrap steel and you will suss it out
good luck
