Just spent a lovely weekend in the woods with the guys & girls, had my first go in Phil's Coracle which was great fun and then Phil decided to take on Martin's title of Poshcrafter™ by dinning in the Coracle!
There's more footage I'll edit together another time but here's a short vid of my go in the Coracle, bleddy loved it, beautiful craft and thank you to Phil for building it & letting me have a go...

Looks like you all had a great time. Brilliant film and photos. Perhaps if more coracles or kayaks could be taken a whole wine and cheese party could be arranged. :p

Great vid Ash. Coracles are great fun, both to build and paddle.

Phil the sea smurf eh... I giggled but it kinda fits ;)I gave him that nick name because he doesn't roll-up his wool hat, he leaves a long bit on the top that leans to one side! :)

Wonder how it'd be to fish from......Funny you should say that I had my poachers handline on me and gave it a short stint from the bank but that was before we got the Coracle down there and the weather was minging at the time, didn't get anything but it wasn't really a serious attempt. I bet the coracle would be great to fish from, having said that I'm no fishing expert! ... I've got this picture now of Phil hooking a large Perch and getting dragged about the lake like it was Jaws or something! It is a light craft ;)

I'm no fisherman, but I imagine anything over a couple of lbs, would easily pull your coracle about. Most but not all, fishing (in olde times) was done with nets from a coracle. Two coracles, with net between them, gently floating down river! My most recent coracle (the wicker one) is destined to become a leaving present (he doesn't know about it yet) for one of the teachers at my school, who has always wanted to fish from one.

That'd be totally hilarious to see, being dragged about by a fish! Lol
Initially I wondered, the coracle looks squirrelly enough as it is to move about and keep upright with two hands, having a rod in one hand and doing whatever with the other (except maybe cutting the cheese) would be a challenge.

We had one for a neolithic man reconstruction at an event and it feels a whole different ball game dressed in a heavy hide and people cheering you on wanting to see you work the coracle (but secretly, or not so secretly, wanting you to go in..)
Great vid. brought back some very nervous memories:o
