With a rather dull game of game of football on the TV, I'm just flicking through this weeks Lidl offers flyer.

They are doing their excellent hiking socks again :)

I have several pairs of these socks, they really are rather good and I will be getting a couple more.

Men’s Hiking Socks (http://www.lidl.co.uk/cps/rde/xchg/lidl_uk/hs.xsl/index_32012.htm)
£ 2.99
4812
Description
Padded sections at pressure points for added comfort and protection
With moisture-wicking H2Port™ performance yarn to keep you dry and minimise odour
Available in various colours
Sizes: 6 - 11

They are also doing:

Gel Insoles (http://www.lidl.co.uk/cps/rde/xchg/lidl_uk/hs.xsl/index_32015.htm)
£ 2.49
4815
These are also rather good and on the shopping list.

Dynamo Solar-Powered LED Torch (http://www.lidl.co.uk/cps/rde/xchg/lidl_uk/hs.xsl/index_32004.htm)
£ 6.99
4814
I've seen this kind of torch in the likes of Millets and Cotwold before, going for between £10 - £20. No idea if they are any good, but if you are after something like this, it might be worth a punt.

Rucksack (http://www.lidl.co.uk/cps/rde/xchg/SID-4FF5B994-0F9D1834/lidl_uk/hs.xsl/index_31995.htm)
£ 12.99
4813
I had a look at these rucksacks the last time Lidl were doing them. Struck me as being similar to the Karrimor Urban 30 in design, price (and probably, durability). But as they are doing both a 25L and a 30L, might be handy as a cheapo day pack or at a stretch, a light load over night pack.

EDIT: Just spotted these rucksack also come with a rain cover, which is not bad considering the price. I will have to revisit these packs when I pop in for my socks.

Seems to be a more la de da version of the other dynamo torch, without the solar charging option. Might be good for camping with kids, as it looks a bit like WALL-E.

Hiking Shoes or Sandals (http://www.lidl.co.uk/cps/rde/xchg/lidl_uk/hs.xsl/index_32005.htm)
£ 14.99

In between retiring my much loved para boots and being seduced by Mountain Warehouse's Merrell Moab knockoffs, I've bought a pair of Lidl's 'hiking' shoes. The Trade Description people should have a word with them about false advertising, they started to fall apart after a week of walking in them. I would not recommend them at all.

But the sandals might be okay for knocking about in, around the camp, if you don't have to carry them in anything other than a car.

Shade Sail (http://www.lidl.co.uk/cps/rde/xchg/lidl_uk/hs.xsl/index_31991.htm)
£ 29.99
4823
Forget about your bashas and your technical tarps when out in the wilds, shade sails are the way forward.

Perfect for gardens or camping

Go on, BUY ONE!

It will be funny :)

Happy Shopping

I wonder if the sunshade is waterproof or if they are calling it that when it is water resistant at best:P

I bought one of those rucksacks for my lad..the water proof cover is held in a little zipped pocket on the out side and bottom of the bag , its attached so cant be lost..but what I like is that it is bright red..so when we hiking through the country lanes he can be easily seen.

I popped in on my travels and bought:

Men’s Hiking Socks (http://www.lidl.co.uk/cps/rde/xchg/lidl_uk/hs.xsl/index_32012.htm) x 2
£ 2.99
4812
These really are good socks, I would have bought more, if they had had more my size.

Gel Insoles (http://www.lidl.co.uk/cps/rde/xchg/lidl_uk/hs.xsl/index_32015.htm) x 2
£ 2.49
4815
These really do help cushion your feet, when you are out for a long walk. I have found they work best if you only put them in your boots when you are intending to go on either a long or a challenging walk and leave them out, the rest of the time.

Rucksack (http://www.lidl.co.uk/cps/rde/xchg/SID-4FF5B994-0F9D1834/lidl_uk/hs.xsl/index_31995.htm)
£ 12.99

My larger daysack, a Karrimor Urban 30, is all but falling apart, so I've been in the market for a new one. I did recently take a punt on an Austrian Alice pack, but it is way to big, or more precisely wide, to be a first choice strolling daysack and is more suited to being an overnight / weekend pack. So I remained on the hunt for a small but not too small pack.

You can quite easily spend a small fortune on a 20L - 25L - 30L daysack and I am sure in some instances the design, lack of weight and build quality, more than justify the high price. But there have not been any technical bags or surplus bags (other than the Alice) that have really caught my eye, so I was beginning to resign myself to replacing the old Urban, with the new redesigned one. The main reason I was dragging my heels was the flimsier look and feel of the new urban.

So I had a good look at these Lidl bags to see if it were any good. The black 30L bag looked solidly built, but the design didn't 'do' it for me, it has two fairly pointless pockets on the front, which would annoy me after a while, and oddly situated, small rain cover pocket and then just the main compartment. Not for me.

The red, white and grey 25L is, IMO, much better designed, it only has one slightly less pointless pocket on the back and a more spacious, better situated rain cover pocket (which you can stuff a poncho into (I tried in the shop, the woman watching me like a hawk was not happy). It has one smallish, odds and ends pocket and then the main compartment. The shoulder straps are much of a muchness and the
Air Dynamic Flow system for optimal air circulation will do little to prevent damp back, but the waist strap was better than you would expect on a cheap bag and when I popped it on, filled with my Bushcraftland goodies to give it a bit of weight (the woman was mumbling 'Are you going to buy that' at this point) it sat really comfortably on my back, better than the Urban (old and new designs) do.

So I bought one.

I am a tad concerned that it might be a little flimsy, but if it gets me through to Xmas I'll be happy.

I did have a look at this and it seems like it could be a useful bit of kit. But, the dynamo bit is on a string pull (like you used to get on speaking toys when I was a lad) and as I can be a heavy handed numpty when I'm not careful, I gave it a miss as I'd probably break it in short order.

Grand :D

I did have a cheeky gander at the sun shade and it did look massive. I also had a look the double self inflating mats they were doing, huge and weighed a ton, it must be big enough for two tall fat people to lie on, I reckon.
