I went out for opening morning with my brother-in-law and my 2 nephews like we do every year; this was the
first time the weather was nice in the last 3 or 4 years, and so of course it meant that the fishing was lousy...
We can usually count on landing 30-50 fish in a morning, but this time I think the count was something like 5!
Here are some pics:

I also have some video which is woefully bad even by my standards.

Here's an explanation of the video to help: We weren't on the lake more than a couple minutes before my nephew Soren
spotted a bear on the shore. I passed him the video cam and paddled toward the bear till it spooked and ran.
The next parts of the vid are us trying to locate an osprey in the trees that kept screeching all morning,
then Soren landed a nice big pike after fighting it for quite a while.
We also took footage from inside the truck as we stupidly tried driving the portage trail to avoid carrying the canoes!

All in all a grand time was had by all even if the fish lunch had to be supplemented with hot dogs...

Lucky you, opening day I caught one of those "downstream from downtown Ottawa bass".....

....ignore the extra legs, was a hot day and the haze played tricks with the camera..... must have been at least 20" long and about four pounds, quite the fight to get it landed, not taking into account the edge weeds that got in the way. Unhooking was a chore, fought more onshore, and you should have seen the long teeth on the bugger, damn near took my arm off trying to get that barbed hook out from it's looped tongue! I'd say I was kidding but some of you might get offended by even saying so. ;)

I did catch two micro-bass over in the next pond though, first was maybe 8" and the second maybe 7", both on a green with red speckle Wacky Worm set up, #2 circle hook (my silent bass slayer that one is, if there was one survival lure and hook set up I'd bet my life on, that would be it, can even use with a hobo can fishing thingy!) Chuck it in, let it sink, pull up gently, let it sink, etc.
