I've had mine for years. I know it's not the lightest but I use the mess tins with my other stoves as I know that everything I want fits into it. I've got other mess tins but always go back the the Swedish Army tins.

My stove arrived this morning, so I decided to give it a try.

The first time I lit the Trangia burner, the flame went out a couple of times. Considering that the kit is up to forty years old and has never been used, I expected the holes to be a little bit clogged. On the second attempt the flame was much stronger but now that I have tried it another couple of times its the dogs danglies. You don't get the simmering ring with the one I bought but these are available online. The burner itself is the better heavier made one and it all packs up together with the windshield.

I have to say that it is well worth the price of £10.98 delivered and would say that if you haven't got one, buy one soon at this great price.

my local army surplus lists these for £15 but strangely never seem to have any in! Glad I read this though, will definately be putting a stainless one on my birthday wishlist for the missus (along with a tig welder and a hammock!)

I'm a sucker for army stoves of all kind and have a bit of a collection of them. The ones that come to work with me on a daily basis though and also live in the car as an emergency bit of kit, are the Swedish Trangias.

The stoves fit in with enough room for tins of food etc to sit above. Worth every penny. :)

I also quite like my Swiss Volcano stove. The value of these seems to have sadly risen of late though. :( I guess that when another load are released, the value will fall again.

Just in case you were wondering why everything is so clean, I'm a bit of a stickler for keeping my kit clean and tidy. To me keeping kit clean is good for both hygiene and preventing problems before they arise. :)

I spotted the bags purely by chance earlier in the week on Ebay. If you search for 'gas mask bag' or belgian army bag, hopefully something may come up. I think that I might have bought the last of stock from the seller that I got them from.

They are very very strong and even have the added bonus of leather support. They measure 300mm high x 130mm expanding to 190mm wide x 150mm deep. They even have three internal pockets, and make a for great all round bag for so many different things.

There seems to be three others for sale on Ebay at the moment, they they have the masks as well and are dearer.



You don't get the simmering ring with the one I bought but these are available online.

Do you have a link for this, as the military Trangia is larger than the civilian one, and whilst I could make a simmer ring, I'd also like to explore the possibilty of buying one.

These kits are good, but I had my fill of them when I was in the army. Still have a set. But the Norwegian model comes without the stove and wind shield, only the pots.
They are to big for me alone and to small for when the whole clan is out. So they tend to sit in the shed. Also take up to much space.

FishyFolk, if the Norwegian set is the kidney bean shape rather than oval, then I also have a set of those. They sit quite high when stored with the wind shield. I bought the set and just didn't like it, so it also just sits in the shed doing nothing.

Space isn't an issue for me, as mine just live in the van, but if I was to use something like this when out on foot, I think that I would prefer to take just a regular 'normal' trangia style set.

I got one last birthday and have to say i love it. I realize its not the lightest of options but its so versatile.

it can be run on twigs etc in the wind shield if you run out of fuel and i even saw a youtube video of a fella baking bread inside one using coals in the shield and some inside the upturned lid,am goig to have to try that! :D

must say though i preferd the austrian billy set to the the swedish one. the swedish one i found wouldnt hang straight with the lid on (austrian does as handle locks into place which also make it easier to pour)

the other thing was the austrian didnt quiet slide right down inside the windshield....i took my grinder to the cup/lid and ground off the rolled lip around the edge and smoothed it off,it now slides in a treat. :D

I have just bought another stainless steel set on Ebay this evening at a give away price of £8.00 buy it now. :)

My sister spotted my set and said that she wanted one as well, so once it arrives I'll give it a clean up and pass it on :)
