Good day to everyone! I just wanted to put in my two cents regarding the CC Filson Double Mackinaw Cruiser coat. It is made from 26 oz., 100% virgin wool with a double cape and reinforced sleeves for extra warmth. I'll post a picture of it below. I got the forest green color.

For those of you not in the USA who may not have heard of CC Filson, they are a classic American outdoor clothing company. Most of their clothing ranges from $100-$500, but it's well worth the money because the clothes will outlive you. Here is a link to their site-

And before we get started, NO I am NOT AFFILIATED with the company in any way. I'm just a teenager who likes wool clothing.

So I bought the Double Mackinaw Cruiser off of eBay for $215, basically brand new. They retail for $370-$400, so I got a good deal.

First impressions- this thing is like armor. The wool is heavy and thick, very dense. Since it is pure wool, it's a wee bit scratchy, but unless you're not wearing a shirt beneath the coat that won't be an issue. Although if you're a light-weight backpacker, this coat ain't for you. It weighs a few pounds easily, and I could see myself getting fatigued while wearing it if hiking long distances.

In terms of actual performance, it's hot as hell here in America (we've been experiencing a terrible draught and temperatures of 100+ degrees). So I can't speak much as to it's ability to block wind, etc. but will post another updated review as soon as we get the slightest chill in the air.

HOWEVER. Here's the thing I don't like about the Cruiser. Personally I was debating between the CC Filson Cruiser or the Boreal Shirt from Lester River Bushcraft. Since I managed to sell my old motorcycle, I bought both to compare (boreal shirt arrives Saturday). But, if anyone out there is debating between the two, buy the Boreal Shirt.

Here's why. First off, Jason Gustafson who manages the orders at LRB is incredibly helpful- he gave me his personal cell phone number and I have called him a few times with questions which he was glad to answer. He shipped my Boreal Shirt very promptly, and then sent me the tracking number. He also said that if I was not satisfied FOR ANY REASON, simply send the Shirt back and he'd refund me. Although I'm confident that I will be more than happy with it. Plus, it helps support a small, family-owned and independently operated business, instead of a mega-company like CC Filson. So keep that in mind.

Sorry if that got a bit long-winded.

Cheers!

Thanks for the review Ian, it's exactly what we need to help us make our mind's up should we want to buy one, it's also nice to hear how helpful a company can be it's usually the opposite :(, I look forward to the review of the Boreal shirt
Many Thanks Brian

Thanks Brian. I am eagerly anticipating its arrival as well. I hear nothing but good things about the Boreal Shirt. Although admittedly it sells for $250 now, which is pretty steep.
