Ok folks, I've just seen something that makes me think it's time to pack away the hammock and bin all my bushcraft gear.
Go on YouTube and search for:
Trekmates flameless cook system
I won't say anymore, just go take a look for yourselves!
All the best

My mate has one of these or something similar. He uses it when hes out being a 'dogsbody' helping train mountain rescue search dogs so there isnt any noise or flame to draw the attention of the handler to the hidden location

Certainly not me...
I still have the samples I got, aside from testing them once, I have never used them...

It's not entirely dissimilar to the flameless ration heater system that the US military has adopted for use. I remember speaking with a friend who is in the US Air Force about 5 years ago about his using them when doing some field training (he's a meteorologist, so he mostly works on-base.) He was saying that the model they were using at the time, which may be different than those that just add water, would off-gas hydrogen; and he and his buddies would make impromptu flamethrowers by lighting the gas and squeezing the pouch.
I never said he was a smart meteorologist... :P

I have a set up, it has it uses, mainly for my work, not my bush crafting set up. It does good noodles, pasta and boil in the bags.
It is good for exercises especially when vehicle based and on the move a lot as you can set your meal up and it still have it sealed away, till needed and is kept warm and you can also have pasta in sauces and the like, and soupy noodles :)

I've got the box and the flask and as TinkyPete says they have their uses. Great for on the go meals in my canoe or in the car when out and about. I'll be leaving mine in the car over the winter with some longlife food packs etc for trips up to the inlaws in scotland just in case we get stuck in the snow!
One good thing about them is that they are safe for kids to use as there is no flame and no noxious gasses given off so are safe inside your tent when it's heaving it down outside! Of course i wouldn't use them as my main cooking kit on a wild camp but they're ok now and again or s an emergency setup.

The US MRE (Meals Ready to Eat) have a heat packet that is water activated. It works ok if you don't mind cold food. I have a case remaining from all that were passed out after Hurricane Katrina. These were packaged in 1994, As you can see the candy is still looks fresh, it taste good also. Some of the ones with fruit packets are rather nasty, the peaches or pineapple is a dark brown color, the taste is ok if you can get by the rotten color. Here are a few photos of the heat packet.
