View Full Version : Pemmican, Jerky, Mintcake ...what do you think is best for a long trip?

I discussed this in a nutrition forum a while back so I thought i'd ask practical info instead of theoretical...
What do you guys rate for the best food for long expeditions/survival?
I am inclined to rate pemmican for its higher calorie count at a lower weight... it does run the risk of rot if the air gets to it though.

Personally, I prefer biltong (or mixing it with dried fruits, seeds and dripping for my version of pemmican!). As for storing, I bought one of these a while back:

...and it's been invaluable for taking all kinds of stuff away (I always remember to bring back the opened packs to recycle).
