kuksa drying

I tried making a kuksa, a great learning curve.

Thought I'd dried it enough, and to toast it, I put in a wee dram of the good stuff,
then it cracked!
Any tips from you guys?

I believe the general advice is to make up a mixture of epoxy resin with some saw dust in it. Apply to the crack and then sand flush. Shouldn't open up again then and is virtually invisible. :(

Superglue. Try to open the crack up as best you can, force the superglue in as best you can, then try to clamp it up.

NOTE - I replied below before I realised this was an old thread from August - Hope you've got it fixed now...!

Great Kuksa, well done.

My recommendation, based on similar issues that are common with greenwood shrinkage, even more common with fruit woods (Apple, Cherry, Holly etc) during drying is to use a 2 pack resin mixed with sawdust from the same type of wood as your kuksa.

If you'r not in a rush for a week or so, let it continue to dry a while longer as it might open a little more, then apply the resin & sawdust.
You may find when sanding back, that the resin will be harder than the surrounding wood, so a little care whilst sanding back will minimise the risk of the resin filled crack standing prouder than the surrounding wood.
