if you haven,t yet read this, you should. It is a humerous factual account of walking a long distance trail in the US. worth packing in the rucksack.

I've only read (and loved) Notes from a Small Island. Walk in the Woods sounds a bit like it could be a more humorous version of Wild (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wild-Found-Pacific-Crest-Trail/dp/0307592731) which I read while camping this summer and really enjoyed.

Walk in the woods had me laughing out loud in the lounge of Linate airport whilst waiting for a flight. It really is worth a read.

I read it this weekend while at the in-laws... It's not a bad book, but I felt it came across more as Bryson complaining about the risk of bear attacks and the uselessness of the various organisations, than a discussion about the trail. I think I was expecting more from it.

I bought this book last month with the intention of reading whilst hanging somewhere during the night.
I cant see that happening this year, so decided to start it while waiting for a consultation at the hospital this morning. (always plenty of time in these circumstances).

Well, I tell ya what. After I saw the consultant, I went stright to the hospital's costa coffee shop, just so I could get another hour in.
It was all I could do, to not belly laugh at some of his anecdotes. Brilliant!!!

Thanks so much for this recommendation!
I'm really enjoying this book!

Hi Paul,
I'm glad you got some enjoyment from it , and hope you are fit and well again soon, I found it very entertaining especially the bits where most of the essentials were discarded after 5 mins hiking.
