hello,
The SEAL SOG Pup I was given a number of years ago by a member of the USNavy
whilst in Scotland on exercise. The original sheath was a heavy duty ABS plastic type
which had a notch near the tip of the sheath to expose a section of blade for cutting
harness/cord etc.. When the 'new' heavy duty nylon sheath was introduced I was sent
one direct from the USofA.
I use the front pouch to carry my Leatherman Tool (ok.. if you lose the knife & sheath you
lose the Leatherman tool) still in all a very good knife, one of a few I have collected over
the years.
SOG SEAL Pup details can be found http://www.sogknives.com/
Interested to hear if anyone on the forum has such or used in a situation?
Regards
David

I have my own seal pup and it goes with me when I go on tour a great and versatile knife, but not really good for bushcraft because of the serrations but is light and strong and will handle a lot of abuse, I know for experience.

hello Pete,
Thanks for the feedback. I do understand that such was put through a great deal of
field testing & abuse by SOG/USNavy SEAL Team. I've used the SEAL knife (big borther
to the Pup) & that's a very versatile blade from experience, the Pup as said was given
to me added to my collection, in use with the Leatherman as per details.
Again T.Y for the feedback appreciated.

no trouble and yes Sog knives do go through a lot of testing, I have met a few SEAL guys and a few others and they certainly use a true mix of kit :) but still want to trade us some of ours at the earliest opportunity which has been good for me in the past.
The sheath is well made and I have had no problems with attaching to either webbing, Osprey or other kit and it stays there well, so I do not think you would loose the Leatherman, but it can said with anything you have on a sheath but I have never lost any kit that way and so still use it as a way to carry kit that could be useful with other bits. (on all my knife sheathes I have a magnetized needle attached and some other things such as cordage and fire means etc)

hello,
Likewise with my kit I've had it instilled into me over the years, 'Check..Check..Check..& Check again."
I've always been very resourceful (shall we say..ahem) over the years with obtaining spare kit. Lead up to
as well as during the Gulf War 1990 I picked up a lot of spare kit through the USMil I've still got
some of this on the shelf. Silly thing to say to someone, "Sure help yourself.." well the Cokes were nice &
cold so sippin' at one, I filled my bivi bag along the way anything that wasn't nailed down.
I was chatting to Ray Mears Team recently along similar lines as I still have the US Issue water bottle covers
but added my 58 Patt Bottles & Teflon Mug. The US Green/Sand colour bottles the inner caps seals perished
long ago I kept hold of the covers which have Alice spring/clips on the rear & fix to webbing easily just taped
over with a piece of green duct tape the 'US' stamp/logo there you have a European ETO which I still use
with PLCE web belt order.
Ray Mears/Woodlore Store have similar covers Australian Army issue & genuine 58 Water Bottles not the
cheap leaky Chinese make. http://www.raymears.com/
Thanks again for the reply & sharing experiences of interest. I'll post a photo later.
Regards
David

i am currently a proud owner of a number of SOG tools.. i have the SOG powerassist EOD multi tool (which i would always choose over my leatherman wave), a Field pup II (very nice little knife), a SOG Aura - SEAL ( i got this as i present and dont really have much of a use for it but still very nice and strong very good for using around a camp) and i also have a SOGfari Machete - 13" (this is the only knife i have had a problem with. It could of been me, being a little optermistic with it and i gave it a right hammering 'as you do' and i bent the blade, however i contacted SOG i sent it back to them and they replaced it for me and within a week i had a brand new machete. the service i got was brilliant!)
as you can probably tell i am a very big fan of SOG and would recommend them.
Cheers, Dave :D

Had one of those while in Kosovo, but where not allowed to carry it as some rupert decided it was "too agressive" and might scare the civillians...I was also carrying a G3 rifle, and a pump action shot gun, but those where apparantly okay, and deemed non scary...So I carried my Ka-bar...that was also okay. :zombie-fighting:
Anyway, I gave it to a friend of mine who was on his way to Iraq in 2003 with the Norwegian combat engineers who where based somewhere south of Basrah...

I got one several years back, but mine has the nylon sheath. I agree that serrations kinda eliminates bushcraft work, but it would be an aces camp knife. For processing and preparing food, but that's about all it could do. It seems when SOG came out with this knife, they were looking at it in a tactical/defensive weapon.....
