at first i thought it was a service tree but i looked it up and it wasnt,the fruit are around 13mm.

could be wrong, but looks a lot like a checkers (service) tree to me

its broader by far,it looks more hawthorne to me but its all too big,the fruit isnt pastey like a haw either (havent eaten it!)

there are two service trees. The True and the Wild service, they look different but I can't recall which is which. We could be barking up the wrong tree altogether ofcourse :D

I,d say its a service tree, if you Google Sorbus domestica there are images of all the different types so Mr bud wasn't "barking up the wrong tree" at all.

Sorbus domestica leaves look more like rowan.

Any chance of getting some different pictures of the leaves? There seem to be a couple of different odd shaped types showing in the main pic.

Service trees have many drupes bunched together, not pome-like fruit.
How large are the fruits in the pic?
