Auction site MSR reproduction cas stoves from China.... Anyone used one?

Hi all,

Been looking for a small gas stove to lighten the load, and seen a few pocket rocket types..
Trawling through the pages, found one from the far east for 99p and £3.25 P&P..

Has anyone actually bought and used one of these, and if so, what are they like?..

The only way you will know is to try it. And for that price you are not excactly losing a fortune. And I would probably not take it on an expedition to Mt. Everest...
But for fixing up a quick brew on a weekend out it would probably be okay. Just make sure you test it,

I did a search myself to find out what you had been looking for , and I actually did buy one a couple of weeks ago, and it works fine. Boils a cup of water in 1:30 minutes and a pint in 5, thats including set up time.

That is exactly the same thing I have. And it works fine....so far.

One little thing though. I would not try to put a large pot on there. I boiled a pint of water ion mine last time I used it with my solo cook set , and that started to feel a little wobbly...but it could have been the surface it was standing on...

I have got to ask, how the hell can they make that and sell it on for 99p whilst still making a profit? The materials alone must cost more than that unless they have been pinching the front wings from the cars outside!

Cheap asian metal... Not the same standard as true british metal... So in fairness, if I can get a few trips out of it, I will be happy...

They take it back on postage. They also sell them for 4-5£ with "free" postage...
Found it's like that with most of the stuff from there.

For a mere 99p the materials and build quality might make it more of a short term disposable gas burner, than a long term kit investment, but for that price, if you like your gas burners, it has to be worth a punt.

It is funny that the postage is more than three times as much as the item itself.

I bet this turns up in Bushcraftland's camping range next year (and if it does, I will buy a couple :D)

I don't intend it to be long term.... just a back up for an upcoming weekend out in the hills... And yes, if bushcraft land DO get them in, I will empty their shelves.. LOL, I am taking my duel fuel stove for main, and this as a back up/ quick brewstop stove...

My solso cook kit came from there too. I do not recall what i paid for it but it was something like 10$ with free shipping (buy it now price).
The same seller had the same item also for 0,99$ and 9,01$ shipping,
Anyway with that cook sett and the gas burner, I practically have the same set as a Primus Crux cook set, that sells on ebay for 60$...and I bet Primus just buys their stuff from
china and slaps their logo on it.

PS. The Brunton fuel can support is worse than no support at all. It is a danger to use.

I was looking at those the other day (in a virtual sense). What is it that's wrong with them?

Basically, the legs will not stay in position. Any slight twist of the can will move one of the leg supports very near the other support which, of course makes it like a two leg so it falls over.

Ah, looks like such a great idea too. Nothing worse than making that lunge for your frying pan as your stove topples over!

The locking pins on the Brunton do not engage firmly at all. They will let go with very little pressure and this can happen while the support is attached to the canister. The legs on the JetBoil will not fold in while it is attached to the canister.
For the most part, the larger canister does not need any additional support. I am all for leaving behind unnecessary gear. The small canister, on the other hand, can be a little tippy.

After looking at my photos of burning stoves, I am keeping the Snow Peak because of the much better flame pattern. This is something I did not see with the naked eye. The smaller ChiCom will be a backup. I got the large one for group trips, my son, his friend and my dentist come on my annual trip to the Black Creek Wilderness Area in South Mississippi, USA for a few days. They don't cook so it's up to me, I guess it's an even trade, my son comes around when needed and my dentist fixes my teeth for free. The larger one should last as it will not be used but a few times a year. Thanks for looking.

Well it turned up this morning........ And I must say I am impressed with it..

Going to be using it with a coleman 100 cannister, so it will all be nice and lightweight... :)

I finally took it out on a real weekend, where it was given a proper test.

It performed superbly, used it for a kettle full of water, it had it boiling in no time, used it to cook a pan full of grub, it did the business with flying colours.
Overall, a very well made bit of kit, it will be happily added to my pack for future jaunts...

They do take a while to be fair..... I wasn't sure if it would turn up in time, but believe me, it will turn up... If it doesn't, after 40 days they say they refund without question.......
